Our Story

Hey there! I'm Bonanza, a dad of 2 kids in Austin, Texas. I started Oyster Cards when I was looking for a fun way to get my kids (1 and 3 at the time) learning about the world and to spur conversation with them. 

My first thought went to flash cards - ideas and topics on convenient, bite-sized cards of paper. But after looking around online, I didn’t like what I saw: cute cartoony images, a basic single photo in isolation, cards that looked like they were made 30 years ago.

Our kids are bright, curious, information sponges! They have SUPERCOMPUTERS in their heads!! Why are we showing them this dumbed-down stuff?

So I set out to create modern cards that treat our kids as the super geniuses that they are while also helping the teacher as well. A few key princples I had in the back of my mind as I created them:

• Show the concept as a kid might see it in the real world
• Show many different examples and variations of that concept to aid learning
• Make the images look nice to spark curiosity
• Add some questions, explanations, and fun things to do on the back to help guide the conversation if needed

The result was the Oyster Cards that you see here! I hope you enjoy them as much as my kids and I do.
